8th Grade Community Action Projects

Music For the Mind

by Naomi

I have started this project as a way to bring joy and hope to people during these times. I am doing this in the way I know best: through music. Music is a huge part of who I am. I want to share this with people and I hope these songs can bring a smile to people’s faces in these unusual circumstances.

It Won’t Be Long

“It Won’t Be Long” originally started as a homework assignment. Our task was to write song lyrics about our experience during quarantine. I decided that not only would I use this for my homework but as my community project. I created my own melody to go along with the lyrics and this is how this song came about. I wanted it to reflect how I am feeling but also bring hope to people in a new way. After writing it, I really started to get into writing music. I have since written a couple more songs that will be posted shortly.

How many days will pass away
Before I see ya
This life that we live is terrifying
People dying
Not knowing when it ends

My worries will only be at bay
When I see  ya
I really need ya

It just takes a little time

So far apart but so close together
Time stands still it feels like forever
It’s seems so hard but we must remember
It won’t be long
If we are strong x 2

We do the same thing every day
online school then
Hit replay
People outside are really trying
life on the line and
It’s all to keep us safe

This virus it may put up a fight
But we’ll beat it
With all our might
We’ll win this in the end

So far apart but so close together
Time stands still it feels like forever
It’s seems so hard but we must remember
It won’t be long
If we are strong x 2

It won’t be long if we are strong
it won’t be long

We Will Get Through This

“We Will Get Through This” has a similar purpose as “It Won’t Be Long” does. It is in part my experience in quarantine, but it also is meant to be uplifting and hopeful. It came to me after I went out one morning. It was around 8:00 AM in New York and there were literally about 4 people on the street within a four-block radius and the streets were empty. I saw maybe two or three cars pass by. This early morning sight inspired the beginning of my song and from there I just kept writing. Although these times are strange, I wanted my song to have a positive message while still recognizing what is going on.

Empty streets the silence turns to stillness
No more cars the world begins to fade
No more shopping no more broadway
I’m Looking out and all I see is sky

I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
Together, together
Together in the end

The isolation slowly drives you crazy
It’s like the days have started to blend
I’m feeling like everything is frozen
I check the clock and all I have is time

I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
Together, together
Together in the end

We will make it through
All you have to do
Is come with me
And believe

I know we will get through this
I know we will get Through this
I know we will get through
Together, together
Together in the

I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
I know we will get through this
Together, together
Together in the end
