How to Apply

Welcome to Bank Street School for Children Admissions. We look forward to partnering with you and your family throughout the admissions process to help you learn more about our program and our approach to teaching and learning. Our team is available to answer any of your questions during this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

For everyone’s health and safety, we will continue to conduct child visits, parent interviews, and open houses virtually. Admissions for all grade levels (preschool – eighth grade) begins in the fall of the year prior to enrollment. Your child must be the age of the grade they are entering by September 1 of the entering year. Our application for the 2022-23 school year will be available on Monday, August 30. We encourage you to apply early so that we can schedule your child visit and parent interview at times that work best for your family.

Application Process

  1. Fill out and submit your application. Applications for the 2022-23 school year will be available Monday, August 30. 
  2. Attend a Virtual Open House.
  3. Select the grade level your child will enter in the 2022-23 school year below to learn about virtual appointments and other required forms you will need to submit with your application.

    Submit Your Application
    Once you submit your application, be sure to follow the prompts on your portal checklist to schedule your child’s visit and parent interview.

    Child Visit
    A member of our Admissions team will conduct a virtual visit with your child and one parent for a 15- to 20-minute play session. You will receive guidelines for the visit a few days prior to your scheduled date, along with a short video with an introduction by the Admissions team member who will be interacting with you and your child during the visit. The objective here is for the child to become familiar and feel safe with our interviewer. We recommend the visit takes place in a location where the child feels comfortable and likes to engage in play.

    Parent Interview
    A member of the Admissions team will conduct a parent interview to get to know your family, understand what you are looking for in a school, and answer any questions you may have about the admissions process.

    Confidential School Report
    If your child attends an early childhood program, the Confidential School Report (pdf) must be completed by your child’s teacher and emailed to sfcadmissions@bankstreet.edu. The Permission to Release Student Information (pdf) form is to be completed by the parent and submitted along with the Confidential School Report form to the student’s teacher. The deadline for Bank Street to receive the report from the sending school is January 7, 2022.

    Financial Aid
    There is no financial aid available for the 3/4s. Only families with children entering the 4/5s or above may apply for financial aid.

    Submit Your Application
    Once you submit your application, be sure to follow the prompts on your portal checklist to schedule your child’s visit and parent interview.

    Child Visit
    This 20- to 30-minute virtual visit is play-based and will be conducted with a member of the Admissions team. Your child will engage in a variety of activities, some at their own initiative and others at the interviewer’s request. A few days prior to the visit, you will receive a short video with an introduction by the Admissions team member who will be interacting with your child during the visit. The objective here is for the child to become familiar and feel safe with our interviewer. You will also receive guidelines for the visit a few days prior to your scheduled date.

    We recommend the visit takes place in a location where the child feels comfortable and likes to engage in play. We also ask that the child have favorite materials and toys on hand for the visit. These materials can be, but are not limited to:

    • Puzzles
    • Pencil and paper
    • Building materials
    • Baby dolls
    • Figurines, etc.
    • Books
    • Cars and trucks

    This 45-minute virtual visit will include an interview and academic skills assessments and will be conducted by our Middle School division head or a member of our Admissions team. You will receive guidelines for the visit a few days prior to your scheduled date. We recommend the visit takes place in a location in your home where your child can sit at a desk.

    Parent Interview
    A member of the Admissions team will conduct a parent interview to get to know your family, understand what you are looking for in a school, and answer any questions you may have about the admissions process.

    Required School Documents

    • Copy of your child’s school report from last year and the most recent school report for the current year
    • Corrected written school assignment from a current class

    Confidential School Report
    Each of the following Confidential School Reports must be completed by your child’s teachers and emailed to sfcadmissions@bankstreet.edu:

    Student Visit
    This 20-30 minutes virtual visit will include an interview with the Upper School Division Head. We recommend the visit takes place in a location in your home where your child can sit at a desk.

    A member of the Admissions team will conduct a parent interview to get to know your family, understand what you are looking for in a school, and answer any questions you may have about the admissions process.

    Confidential School Report
    Each of the following Confidential School Reports must be completed by your child’s teachers and emailed to sfcadmissions@bankstreet.edu:

    Standardized Tests
    This year, Bank Street School for Children is not requiring student candidates to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or the SSAT. Both exams are optional. If the exam is taken, the results can be submitted to Bank Street.
