  • First Stage, Rising Grade 1

Welcome to FIRST STAGE , a program that celebrates imagination and introduces campers to theater and art through creative play. Each session will offer a different theme, allowing for a wide range of fine arts to be explored. Activities, crafts, and trips will complement each topic.

    FIRST STAGE: STORYTELLING
    (June 17 – June 21)
    (July 1 – July 13, closed 7/4, 7/5)
What makes a good story? How and why do we tell them? Campers will traverse the land of storytelling by hearing some beloved tales, learning about the important elements of a story, and collaborating on original stories as a group. With a strong focus on developing language arts skills, campers will be encouraged to engage their full imagination to tell vibrant stories!

    FIRST STAGE: MASK-MAKING & PUPPETRY
    (July 15 – July 26)
What is a character? How do we display different emotions? This group will multiply throughout the session as campers create new friends out of paper, cardboard, yarn, and paint! While discovering the cultural and theatrical uses of masks and puppets, campers will bring their own creations to life to act out, explore, and develop empathy for different emotions and identities.

    FIRST STAGE: MOVEMENT & MUSIC
    (June 24 – June 28)
    (July 29 – August 9)
What is rhythm and where do we feel it? How do we experience music? For campers that like to tap their toes or sing along to Spotify, this session will focus on sharpening those natural rhythmic instincts. Through games and improvisation, campers will identify several basic elements of music and engage with the world’s most creative languages: song and dance.

Each group has snack time, outdoor play, age appropriate rest/quiet time and swim time. Each group also swims three times a week. This group is for rising first graders.
