The New S.T.E.A.M. Programs at the Bank Street Summer Camp

The Bank Street Summer Camp’s S.T.E.A.M. program is the epitome of experiential education. The Summer Camp, the KiDS College Spring Break Camp, as well as the new Brooklyn Heights Camp, each use Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics as a platform to further explore the relationship of function and construction.

In the Summer Camp and the Spring Camp, both located on the Upper West Side in the Bank Street School, the art portion of the program includes the Bank Street’s progressive approach to woodworking. Woodworking is introduced in the 3/4’s at Bank Street School for Children as a means of self-expression but as a tool to help develop fine motor skills and problem solving as a part of a complex task, aiding cognitive development. In this same vein, electric modules, like Little Bits, and programming and coding tools like Tynker, Hopscotch, and Scratch allow campers to think a task through from planning to execution.

This summer, the Summer Camp will have access to a MakerBot 3D Printer, further challenging everyone to an even higher level of understanding and fun.
