The First Bank Street Summer Camp Maker Fair Made Its Debut!

The first Bank Street Summer Camp “Maker Faire” made its debut today as the Middle Camp Adventures in Science program and the Upper Camp S.T.E.A.M. program transformed the art room into their very own inventor’s laboratory.

One camper remarked, “I’ve never been to such a cool fair like this before,” as another camper showed her what makes a CPU work effectively.

Throughout the first half of the day, these two groups eagerly shared their inventions as other groups came by to ask questions. Some of the projects focused on how electrons move and how such an understanding can help create light. Using Squishy Circuits, some campers were able to conduct and insulate play-doh bringing power to an LED.  Some campers even found ways to beat the heat by using Little Bits to create fans and measure the amount of light passing through an artificial atmosphere.Fair visitors also learned what happens when you mix colored baking soda and vinegar. Many planted their own seeds and were able to take them home.

We can’t wait to what STEAM and Science Adventurers will accomplish in Session 2!
