This year Cookie Shapiro, the Director of the Bank Street Summer Camp, will be presenting “Starting the Conversation of Education Leadership for the Camp Professional” at the National Camp Conference in New Orleans.
Demonstrating the educational importance of summer programs is essential when framing recreational programs with an educational lens. This conference will focus on justifying the importance and impact that summer camp programs have by recognizing and reframing what camps already have and are already doing.
Participants will then work in small groups to examine some of their programs and find ways to reframe them.
A) Reframe programs to reflect developmentally appropriate focuses
B) Redefine programs to combat summer learning loss
C) Reexamine camper support for social/emotional growth
