August Alliance

In cooperation with Columbia University and the Cathedral School, the Bank Street Summer Camp has created the Bank Street Summer Camp August Alliance, providing weekly programs throughout August for children in pre-K to 8th grade.

For many working parents, Summer Camp is no longer seen as a luxury but as a necessity. For many years now, the Upper West Side has struggled with summer camp options in August, as many schools use that time to renovate or prepare for their fall openings.

Cookie Shapiro, the Director of the Bank Street Summer Camp, says of the alliance,

“In order to make camp accessible, affordable and sustainable it’s important for camp directors to listen to the needs of their families. The August Alliance camp has made this possible for us.”

The Bank Street August Alliance camp will include programs like morning swim and a variety of developmentally appropriate trips and activities. Any children of faculty, staff or students from the alliance will receive a discount of 10%.

Additionally, the new Alliance will add an ESL (or English as a Second Language) program to provide an opportunity for children learning English to practice before the school year begins. Some of the other programs available are Bank Street Summer Camp’s renowned Spanish Immersion program and Special Effects in Film, as well as the Camp’s popular day camp program.
