Announcing the New Brooklyn Summer Camp!

This summer, the Bank Street Summer Camp urban camp experience can be found outside of Manhattan. The Mary McDowell School, located in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, will be hosting the Bank Street Summer Camp’s new Brooklyn Camp with new and improved summer programs that give campers the time and space to get to know themselves, while learning in a recreational atmosphere.

Introducing our new Starfish program, for campers entering kindergarten and first grade. This program will focus on progressive play and exploration in a safe and relaxed setting. Creativity and imagination are key components as children are encouraged to try new forms of recreational play and focused exploration.

Our new Estrella de Mar Spanish Immersion Camp, for campers entering kindergarten and first grade, is similar to the Starfish program but conducted in Spanish. This program provides campers with the opportunity to learn, practice, and reinforce the Spanish language through a variety of engaging and interactive activities. The focus is on the development of the students’ receptive and expressive language skills, while creating positive educational and recreational experiences. By practicing the language both in and out of the classroom, counselors are able to make campers feel comfortable, and help develop appreciation, excitement and love for the Spanish Language.

Similar to our ever successful Sports program, the new All Stars sports program is offered for campers entering second to sixth grade who are interested in various sports. Drills, workout and games will focus on building individual skills, teamwork, knowledge of a variety of sports, and total body coordination. The program is coed with a focus on personal growth, rather than competition.

The new S.T.E.M. program is based in a recreational setting where each week campers will focus on a different aspect of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In addition to visiting museums and spending dedicated classroom time to science, campers will participate in their very own “S.T.E.M. Share” when campers share the work they have done over the course of the session with parents and friends.

We have duplicated our popular Musical Theater program for Brooklyn, which operates from a basis of collaboration between campers and counselors in a supportive and nurturing environment. Instructors guide campers through a variety of group exercises and activities to give them a sense of ownership of their performance. Through physical and vocal expression, a sense of play is cultivated and an ensemble is born.  All children are asked to start from where they are and encouraged to go to the edge of their imagination. Everyone is expected to work hard, play hard and have lots of fun. Students develop skills in acting, singing and dance. We feel that it is important to include everyone as much as possible, and we take special care to ensure each camper has a substantial role. As campers prepare these performances, they’ll be exploring acting, improvisation, movement, dance, and other aspects of the performing arts process. This summer, campers will mount a full-scale musical production of Into the Woods Jr., which is only the first half of the regular show.

All programs are from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Enrichment classes are available from 3:00pm to 4:30pm, as well as extended care until 5:00pm, 5:30pm and 6:00pm.

Spread the word about the exciting news. Bank Street Summer Camp has come to Brooklyn Heights!
