Event Title:
The Breakthrough Years on Adolescents: A Conversation with Ellen Galinsky, GSE ’70

Child development expert Ellen Galinsky, GSE ’70, former faculty, a founder of the Family Center, returns to Bank Street to share highlights from her new book, The Breakthrough Years: A New Scientific Framework for Raising Thriving Teens.

With a blend of science-backed evidence and storytelling, you’ll gain insights from her Shared Solutions framework and Possibilities Mindset. Publishers Weekly in its starred review said, “ The astounding amount of research touches on how to promote executive function skills and teens’ belief that they have the power to effect positive change, among myriad other topics…. Overflowing with insight backed by scientific rigor, this is an essential companion for parents of adolescents.”

A bonus: Ellen will connect with some School for Children students beforehand and during the event and share what they want you to know about kids their age!

The Breakthrough Years has also been called a “masterpiece” (Daniel J. Siegel, M.D, author of Brainstorm); “a tour de force” (Mitch Prinstein, PhD, of the American Psychological Association), “a superb contribution to science and society” (Richard Lerner, PhD, of Tufts University); “a singular contribution to educators” (Mort Sherman, EdD, of AASA); “A gift-I loved it”  (Angela Duckworth, PhD, author of Grit); “the indispensable guide” (Kenneth Ginsberg, MD, author of Congrats You’re Having a Teen!);  “must-read” (Velma McBride Murry, PhD, of Vanderbilt University), “destined to be a classic” (Michele Borba, EdD, author of Thrivers); a beauty of a book (Goldie Hawn, actress and of MindUP); brilliantly distills the best research (Tiffany Shlain, filmmaker);  the most informative, compelling, and passionate book on adolescents and adolescence I have ever read (Karen Pittman of Knowledge of Power Catalysts); and “This book will change your relationship [with adolescents] and most importantly inspire you—not frighten you—in the process (Aliza Pressman, PhD, author of The Five Principles of Parenting).
