Fall Schedule

Registration for Cycle 1 Relaunch begins on November  2, 2020 at noon and end on Friday, February 12, 2021, except where noted.

After School is offering AfterSchool@Home exclusively for Bank Street families and Summer Camp families until we are able to offer safe in-person programming. All classes will be conducted remotely.

Daily drop ins are available for limited programs at a cost of $35 per class. Financial aid is not available for drop ins. To sign up, contact the office directly at auxprograms@bankstreet.edu.

  • 4/5s – 7/8s, Art Farm Zoologists with Art Farm (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Young naturalists will have the opportunity to discover how to be kind, gentle, and respectful towards animals and the environment in this unique Virtual Animal Science Program. Each session includes up-close encounters with awesome animals including rabbits, chinchillas, doves, lizards, turtles, frogs, and insects! Students will experience the wonders of nature through observational drawing, investigating animal survival strategies, deciphering animal tracks, learning the techniques field biologists use to study animals, and exploring x-rays, animal skulls, feathers, and eggs! Students will also play animal-themed games with their friends while discovering some cool facts about our favorite animals!

  • 5/6s – 7/8s, Dazzling Discoveries Super Science (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Science is all around us! Children will uncover science hidden in their day-to-day world as they explore rainbows, wheels, gravity, natural disasters, air pressure, sound, water, outer space, and other topics from our visible environment. Join the fun! Returning students can rest assured that all activities in Cycle II will be new.

  • 6/7s - 8/9s, Dynamo Girl Sports (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Dynamo Girl teaches girls fundamental sports skills in a fun and joyful environment. At Dynamo Girl, girls are introduced to sports like: flag football, basketball, soccer and volleyball as well as deepening their speed, strength and agility through obstacle courses and games. Our curriculum also provides the girls, individually and as a group, many opportunities for building teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills. Any child who identifies as a girl is welcome to participate. Dynamo Girl makes your daughter stronger inside and out!

  • 8/9s and Up, Musical Theater Builders (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    In Musical Theater Builders, Online, children experiment with theatrical improv to develop original stories and characters. New lyrics are created, based on the children’s ideas, and set to famous Operatic, Symphonic, and Musical Theater hit tunes’ often with comic effect! Kids will be invited to help create their own Soundtrack using Soundtrap.com. They will get up and get moving as they create choreography, and explore how to frame shots through their Zoom camera. The final result is a hilarious short film/music video to share with friends and family! HERE is an example of student work!

  • 7/8's -8/9s, Giant Room: Think Like a Maker (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Students learn about machine learning, coding, and design thinking while inventing solutions for the problems they care about. They also practice public speaking as they present their inventions. We’ll meet once a week on Tuesdays, live online. Think like a pilot, engineer, or even a bug! Participants learn prototyping techniques to tackle age-appropriate challenges, work collaboratively, and think creatively. They use recycled material they have at home and turn them into unexpected inventions! We’ll meet once a week on Tuesdays, live online. Students ideate together, learn new techniques, build, share, and give feedback to each other. GIANT instructors are there to teach, guide, and challenge them to take their inventions one step further.

  • 7/8s and Up, Minecraft Beginner with Noah Zitsman (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Students will gather virtually where we’ll explore engineering, coding, and physics challenges including city building, designing redstone circuits, and creating automated defenses against monster with Noah Zitsman.

  • 5/6s – 7/8s, Giant Room Broadway Show (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Students write original stories and songs, design characters, cast for their show, design costumes, build their own stage, design sets, prepare posters, and put on a big show! We’ll meet once a week on Wednesdays, live online. We’ll take virtual field trips to stages and cultural centers around the world, visit the backstage, meet and interview Broadway talent, dream, build, and share together. GIANT instructors are there to teach, guide, and challenge students to take their shows one step further.

  • 7/8s - 10/11s, Dazzling Discoveries Inventor's Workshop (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Think it, design it, build it! Learn planning, design and engineering skills while making your own games, toys and inventions. Explore and create using everything from paper & cardboard to lights and motors. Based on STEM principles of science, engineering, technology and math, kids will invent, make and take home their special projects.

    Intermediate Chess with Hex & Co (Weds 4:15-5:00) For 7/8s & Up with Hex & Co: After learning piece movement and basic rules in Chess, this class is aimed at improving strategic thinking and seeing that planning in chess begins as early as move one. Designed for students who understand the basics of chess tactics and strategy, we will emphasize more advanced strategy, classic openings and closings.

  • 8/9s and Up, Coding Games Intro (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Participants learn coding fundamentals including conditional logic, variables, and loops. Making use of platforms such as Code Camp World, group members create characters and narratives, develop their sense of storytelling, and exercise their problem-solving skills. During development, games can be published for friends and caretakers to play and view progress using the Code Camp Community app. Using their unique login, each child may continue developing, sharing, and playing games using the Code Camp World platform outside of instructional time. By the end of the session participants will have experience working with X/Y coordinate systems, kinetic physics, animation and comparison operators.

    Each week we would work on a different muscle group and learn exercises/active games that target those muscles. For example, for upper body fitness challenges we’d do push ups, planks, overhead ball taps etc.

    Minecraft is so much more than a gaming platform. In this deep dive, we will learn advanced builds like piston doors, command blocks, sensor-driven farms, and how to use mods and add-ons to customize your characters and worlds!

  • 5/6s – 6/7s, Giant Room: Farm to Table (2:00 PM – 2:45 PM)

    Students come up with an idea of an original cafe, design the menu and recipes for their dishes, design their cafe settings, make their ‘dishes’ using arts and crafts materials they have at home, decide on finances for their cafe, and serve their customers! This program is a wonderful blend of social science, science, math, literacy, and creativity. We’ll meet once a week live online, take virtual field trips to farms, restaurants, food trucks, and cafes around the world, meet and interview farmers and cafe owners, create, build, and share together. GIANT instructors are there to teach, guide, and challenge students to take their ventures one step further.

  • 9/10 and Up, Radio Bank Street with Nina Mor (4:15 PM – 5:00 PM)

    Radio Bank Street Create and Host our brand new Radio Bank Street. Our broadcasters will begin by writing stories or poems for all ages. They will conduct interviews of staff at Bank Street School for Children and will have a few guest interviews. There also will be opportunities to do short performances and variety shows. Radio Bank Street will compile news from different groups, provided by the staff, as well as announce upcoming events for the following week. Families will have the opportunity to listen or watch, making it a unique experience for both participants and the listening/viewing audience.

Bank Street Supplemental Music Programs

As there are limited offerings this year, classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a class reaches capacity, subsequent registrants will be automatically added to the waiting list for that class. A minimum of 7 children is required in order to hold most classes.  A class may be canceled if enrollment becomes insufficient to support it.Financial assistance is available and will be based on a percentage of the current financial award from the School for Children. After School classes will only be held on days that Bank Street is open or when  BankStreet@Home is running.

    Private lessons are $1400 for 30 min slots for 30 private lessons. This is a full year commitment.

Financial Aid

If you receive financial aid from Bank Street School for Children, your child(ren)’s aid percentage(s) from the 2020-21 school year will be applied to your after school  account, subject to the maximum award of up to 75% for general classes and up to 65% for private lessons.The after school office will make those adjustments after you have registered and paid a deposit.
