8th Grade Community Action Projects

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”  — Mister Rogers

During this period of social distancing, people across the nation are demonstrating exceptional acts of support for one another. Here in New York City, for example, the 7:00 PM cheer has encouraged millions of residents to take to their balconies, windows, and rooftops every evening to applaud health care workers.

Inspired by such stories, 8th graders at the Bank Street School for Children created the 8th Grade Community Action Projects as a way of supporting others, starting in their own communities. Through creative brainstorming, research and planning, and implementation by each student team, these projects aim to entertain, educate, and spread messages of hope and kindness.
